Video: Mercedes on Pole for the 1955 Monaco Grand Prix
He may not have been sitting on the front row on Sunday, but this past weekend Michael Schumacher set the fastest qualifying time around Monaco; the first time for a Mercedes team car since Juan Manuel Fangio in the 1955 Monaco Grand Prix.
Fangio started the 1955 race ahead of the Lancia of Alberto Ascari, which ended up at the bottom of the harbour, and his Mercedes teammate Stirling Moss. This video tells the story of what happened next, and is full of the tremendous bellows of those wonderful old machines, plenty of sideways action, and the wonders of spectators on the curbs, impossible hats and Monaco at its best.
