John Ketchell is mad about motors, motorsport, and speed in general. And he possesses a gift for expressing what I think we all feel about cars and racing and sharing it with the world through the medium of paint.

His work combines a clear talent for the technical aspects of painting, such as perspective, form and composition, with an eye for capturing colour, action and speed.

It’s abstract, but not unidentifiable; just risque enough to make it challenging and exciting, and to elicit a response.

And it’s brilliant. It captures the thrill of racing; the machinery; the knife-edge dance of a close pass; the speed; the abuse of physics; the atmosphere, excitement and energy, and it does it with the same sense of spectacle and joy which the best motorsport events seem to produce.
