Hollywood Behind The Iron Curtain
Steve McQueen is known as one of Hollywood’s true motor sport competitors and is famous for his 1971 film Le Mans, which also bankrupted the actor. However not many people know that Steve also competed in the 1964 International Six Day Trial.
The 2004 book called “40 Summers Ago” is a photographic journey covering Steve’s ride with the US team at the event held in East Germany. Steve rode a Triumph 650 in the ISDT, which is known as the greatest test of skill and endurance in off road motorcycle racing. The ISDT continues today as the ISDE.
The famous Belstaff clothing company are now also making replica jackets of the one used by Steve and the team in 1964.
