Jim Richards to race at Gooodwood Revival
The Earl of March, patron of the UK’s most celebrated motor sport meetings has invited Touring Car Masters legend, Jim Richards to compete in this year’s Goodwood Revival on 17-19 September.
The Annual Goodwood Revival rolls back the clock to celebrate the glory days of motor racing. An internationally renowned event, competitors and spectators dress in period fashions to experience the glamour of the era in a weekend of fine entertainment and tremendous pre-1966 machines.
Recently declared Australia’s best ever touring car driver, Richards has been invited to compete in the famed St. Mary’s Trophy event in a 1956 Morris Minor, sharing the driving with the car’s owner.
Although Richards has never raced this type of car before, he has an affinity for the model having owned a Morris Minor as a road car in the 1960’s.
After the event, Richards will return from the UK in time to prepare for the most iconic event on the Touring Car Masters presented by Autobarn calendar, round five at Bathurst’s Mount Panorama (NSW) on 7-10 October.

“I’m in the St. Mary’s Trophy which is a famous event that’s held each year covering a different era of motorsport. This year is pre-1960’s, so there’s Jaguars, Austin A30’s, Austin A35’s, Austin A40’s, Alfas; there’s all sorts and I’m driving a 1956 Morris Minor.
“The race is a two-part event where the invited drivers race the cars in one race and then the owners drive the cars in the other race and you add the points together to get a result.
“I haven’t been to Goodwood before and I’m very flattered to be invited.
“I’ve always wanted to go to the Revival. Being invited to drive and be part of the whole thing, I thought ‘you’ve got to do it. You never know, you might never get invited again’.
“I got a letter in the mail from Lord March to invite me to drive and then I got another letter from him inviting me to play cricket.
“On the Thursday before the meeting, it’s a tradition that drivers and personalities are invited for a game of cricket and everyone gets dressed up in their whites and plays cricket.
“Afterwards we go to drivers’ briefing and then we have the annual Goodwood Ball – this year’s theme is Transylvania. You can either dress up in costume or go in black tie; I’ll be going black tie.
“The whole thing is really a big social event with a drive. I’m really looking forward to it.”
