Heaven VMX announce 2011 calendar
The 2011 Heaven VMX calendar has been released and it looks like a cracker with the nine event season having a great mix of tracks and disciplines.
Highlights of the year will be the Crawford River Classic., the Evo Challenge and the Canowindra Cup.
The Motorsport Retro team will be out there competing at as many rounds as possible. We have gathered together a little team and have been furiously building bikes over the last few months. More news about this later.
Below is the blurb on the tracks the series will visit.
” Heaven VMX now have a calendar ready for publication (see below) you will notice that there is a wide variety of tracks and locations to suit all riders’ ability and enthusiasm.
We will be using the Bulahdelah track just north of Newcastle three times this year. The first meeting will be on the “Super track“. This is the combination of the motocross and grass tracks, so you get almost 3000 metres of pure fun, it is a blast.
The second meeting, the “CRC’ will be on the grass track that was designed by the late and great Jim Pomeroy. This will as always be a must do race meeting and the finale to the year will be on our motocross track. This track has been modified by us to suit us so we can enjoy rolling jumps and high bermed corners all with spectacular viewing positions for the racing followers. Bulahdelah is also very picturesque and a great place to camp for race meeting weekends.
Clarence near Lithgow Zig Zag Railway is a sandy loamy track that holds up well to most conditions and it now has an excellent watering system and machinery that can handle the demands of the track. It has vintage friendly jumps with lots of corners to keep you on your toes. Our good friend, Maree Kirby from Clarence has assured me that the track will be prepped perfectly to suit the requirements of our ageing bikes and bodies. It is one of the favourite tracks of members.
ACT, Fairbairn Park or as the old brigade say, “come a gutsa” will be used twice this year, so Snowy, the 2 Bill’s, Dennis, Ecka and all you other southerners can all have a little less travelling this year.
The track is described by some as, “quite challenging” others say it is only a
motocross track and we ride motocross tracks. It has at times had large jumps to cater for state title events but now the track is more rider friendly for the majority of people. The Act club always works with us to refine the track to suit our needs, so bring it on!
The Lakes, one of our favourite Novocastrian tracks will be used again in 2011.
The boys from the Lakes committee have already committed themselves to be our officials. They love the friendly, lets just ride and race for the pleasure of it attitude of the Heaven people. There are some great uphill and downhill sections at this track.
It goes without saying that the track will be presented to us in an immaculate race ready condition.
Rumour has it that we may even run the full track which includes the bottom section that in previous times the juniors were only privy to ride on, but remember, it is only a rumour at this stage, more about that later.
Canowindra (Kuh noun dra, as the outer Towner’s pronounce it), is a nice drive west of Sydney. Greg Holmes has once again, (now his third year in a row) secured the show ground for the Canowindra Cup but it should be known that 2 committee members are from the area and could have the “home track advantage”
This premier two day race meeting held in the infield of the towns trotting track and show ground is the best race meeting to discover the “ dark horse “ or “where did he come from “ comments from fellow riders. This purpose built arena grass track certainly allows all riders to shine and show some hidden talents.
Lake Glenbawn near Muswellbrook, what can we say, it has big friendly jumps with great approach and down ramps, a long start straight with a beautiful left handed first turn, a small rhythm section a small drop off jumps, flowing jumps, some nice berms, plus a mother of all step ups (aptly named the ski jump) a very rapid downhill that causes negative gee forces in the chest & fuel tank cap sitting, not to mention the great table top jump. That is why everyone loves Lake Glenbawn, I am sure all members feel the same about the track. The camping and the whole atmosphere are not to be missed.
Oops, nearly forgot, because the track is so awesome, the committee has decided to hold the 2011 Evo Challenge there, and you can rest assure that there will be lots of good racing.
Anyway, that preview should get the race bug going and as stated earlier, the committee has planned a full and exciting program for 2011 so get your memberships in.
Camping is available at all tracks and you have the option to ride one or two days.
Saturday practice days are great to test out your bikes and the track before race day on Sunday.”
