Video: Jeff Leisk – 1989 500cc Motocross World Championship
The next issue of the excellent Transmoto Magazine will have a story about Jeff Leisk’s memorable 1989 season, “where he talks about his bad luck at Namur and Valkenswaard – where he ran out of fuel and DNFed.”
The 1989 500cc Motocross World Championship saw Jeff Leisk (Honda #18), become the rookie sensation. The Australian exploded onto the scene and set tongues wagging with his smooth style and immediate victories. Had he not run out of fuel at the opening round, he would have gone on to win the World Motocross title, a feat which no Aussie has ever claimed.
The Honda team dominated the Championship, with Dave Thorpe taking the crown followed by his team mates Leisk and Eric Geboers.
The video shows Jeff Leisk winning race one on the legendary Namur circuit before succumbing to dehydration in race 2.
