Nigel Mansell stars in the best race in BTCC history
What can you say about Nigel Mansell? Just about as unlikely a superstar as the world has ever seen, one things for sure, he was never boring.
After being too big and too slow to finish the season with McLaren in 1995, Nige decided on a return to racing in the1998 British Touring Car Championship, driving a Ford Mondeo.
The gig would be for just for three rounds and with the number 5 already taken by James Thompson, Mansell raced with the red number 55.
At his first event at Donington Park, he retired three laps into the sprint race, meaning he would start the feature race in 19th position.
The feature race was held in atrocious wet conditions and Mansell came into his own. Watch the video to see why even though Mansell doesn’t win, the race is considered by many fans as one of the greatest in touring car history.
