10 of the best from Autopics: Nissan touring cars

With Nissan confirmed to be competing in the Australian V8 Supercar Championship in 2013, we thought we’d take a look back at their history in Australia with these images from Autopics.com.au

Nissan became a dominant force in Australian Touring Car racing in the ’80s with their Bluebirds and took it to the top in the ’90s with the car known as ‘Godzilla’ – the Nissan GT-R. The GT-R became the first Japanese car to win the Bathurst 1000, taking home victory in 1991 and 1992 with Jim Richards and Mark Skaife at the wheel.

That same pair was responsible for claiming three consecutive Australian Touring Car Championships – 1990, 1991 and 1992 – for Nissan.
