Giancarlo Falappa’s 1992 Ducati 888 SBK up for grabs at RM Auctions Monaco
“Sometimes, the race does go to the swift, and the battle to the strong!”
1992 was Giancarlo Falappa’s most successful season in the World Superbike Championship. He won both races at the Österreichring, along with races at at Assen and Manfeild, and finished fourth in the riders’ championship.
His machine for the year was one of the sport’s classics – the Ducati 888 SBK Corsa. The successor to the 851, Doug Polen had ridden the 888 to 17 race wins in 1991, along with four other podium finishes, securing the riders’ championship for himself and helping Ducati secure the constructors’ championship.
And Falappa was quick on it, winning four races to finish fourth behind Doug Polen, Raymond Roche and Rob Phillis in the riders’ championship and contributing to another constructors’ championship for Ducati.
This 888 SKB Corsa is one of Falappa’s Ducati Works bikes from 1992 in Team Police livery. It’s absolutely immaculate, and will go under the hammer with no reserve at RM Auctions’ upcoming Monaco auction. Head to the RM Auctions website here for more information.
RM Auctions’ Monaco event will run over the weekend of the 11th and 12th of May, 2012, and coincide with the 8th Grand Prix de Monaco Historique.
