Video: 40 Years of BMW M
Established in 1972 as part of BMW’s racing program, the BMW M has become an institution.
The first racing machine produced under BMW M power was the 3.0 CSL, which was homologated for racing in the European Touring Car Championship in 1972. By 1973 its displacement had been increased and it had grown a few aerodynamic appendages, evolving into the timeless ‘Batmobile’, which Toine Hezemans drove to a European Touring Car Drivers’ Championship and a class win at Le Mans with Dieter Quester.
The BMW M was introduced to the public with the very racy and completely awesome M1 in 1978.
Enjoy this video, which celebrates forty years of BMW M.
