Video: Dario Franchitti Drives the 1965 Honda RA 272
“The noise of the engine, the power delivery of the engine, the positioning of the engine.. that dominated the whole day.”
Honda’s RA 272 was known for its high-revving, technically advanced V12, which took great joy in launching the car off the line and through the revs at immense pace. It was the first Japanese car to win a Formula One Grand Prix, helping Richie Ginther to victory in Mexico for the final round of the 1965 Formula One season.
Four-time Indycar champ Dario Franchitti takes it for a spin at Motegi in this clip, providing his thoughts on what it’s like to drive, what makes it so special, and what made the men who drove in its time so great.
