Video: Michele Alboreto in the 1985 Monaco Grand Prix

The 1985 Monaco Grand Prix was one of those legendary drives for Michele Alboreto.

This video is worth watching for Alboreto’s hair-raising pass on Nigel Mansell alone, hanging everything all the way out early on in the race to get up into second and challenge Ayrton Senna for the lead.

Then there’s the endless procession of qualifying laps and fearless moves he puts in as he fights his way through the pack multiple times to chase down Senna and then Alain Prost, not to mention all the drivers in between. This race is a lesson in determination, fearlessness and brutal speed from one of the sport’s greats.
