Astonishing: Bonham’s Aston Martin Works Service Sale
On the 19th of May, 2012, Bonhams will hold their annual Aston Martin Works Service Sale and put an amazing collection of collectible Aston Martins up for auction.
Amongst the classy contingent of collectible Aston Martin classics are two particularly lovely racing machines; the ex-George Abecassis 1952 Aston Martin DB2 Sports Saloon and the Tour de France Auto, Rallye de Dieppe and Rallye de Soleil Cannes1952 Aston Martin DB2 Vantage Sports Saloon.
Abecassis, himself an Aston Martin works driver and co-founder of HWM, the world’s longest-serving Aston Martin agent, raced the DB2 Sports Saloon with some success in the ’50s. As it passed through various owner’s hands, it continued to compete successfully. Its recent life has seen it competing in historic events around Europe, including Tour de France Auto, Round the World Rally, Le Mans Classic and Mille Miglia.
The second DB2, the Vantage Sports Saloon, was campaigned extensively by Michel Poberesjky in races like Tour de France Auto, the Roubaix Grand Prix, 12 Hours of Hyeres and more around Europe in the ’50s. It found quite some success and Poberesjky, under his racing name Mike Sparken, and his co-drivers spent a great deal of time at the pointy end. It’s in brilliant condition, having lead a peaceful life since the early ’60s, and will be welcome at historic racing events in Europe and around the world.
Bonhams’ Aston Martin Works Service Sale will be held on the 19th of May, 2012, at the Aston Martin Works Service Center in Newport, Pagnell and you’ll be able to bid online as well. Head to their website here for more information.
