Video: Conserving the ’67 Le Mans winning GT40
A story of preservation and respect, surrounding the beautiful GT40 in which Dan Gurney and A.J Foyt won the 1967 Le Mans 24hr.
Recently on our Facebook page we discussed the merits of restoration versus preservation, which was sparked by the Cisitalia video we’d run. Many of you felt that to restore a car with significant racing history was to wipe away it’s story, and steralise it’s character – something the 1967 Le Mans 24hr had plenty of. We wholeheartedly agree, and it seems the folks over at the Henry Ford Museum do too – as this video sees them hand over their treasured ’67 Le Mans winning GT40 in search of repairs following some unfortunate damage suffered in transport. The question has to be asked – how does one repair a car’s bodywork whilst preserving its hard-earned battle scars?
