A pair of Renault Alpine A442s flank the Martini Porsche 935/78 of Manfred Schurti and Rolf Stommelen. The no.2 A442B driven by Didier Pironi and Jean-Pierre Jaussaud would go on to win the race, whilst the no.3 A442A of Derek Bell and Jean-Pierre Jarier would DNF after 162 laps.
