Onboard: Ayrton Senna takes pole at the 1990 Spanish GP

Submitted by on March 21, 2014

Screen Shot 2014-03-16 at 3.28.42 pm Senna wouldn’t have much luck at the 1990 Spanish Grand Prix. In qualifying however, he was unstoppable.

The 1990 Spanish Grand Prix was held at Jerez and saw a frustrated Ayrton Senna retire from the race following a punctured radiator – the first of the three consecutive DNFs with which he would finish the 1990 Formula 1 season. In qualifying however, things were a different story – Senna was very, very fast.

This piece of video takes us back to that day, and allows us to ride on-board as Senna wrestles his McLaren around Jerez to take the pole.
