Stan Dibben is No Ordinary Passenger
“Sidecar racing in particular is addictive. Joyous lunacy if you like!” – Stan Dibben
Stan Dibben is a Sidecar World Champion with a great outlook on life and some serious credentials under his belt. Spend a few minutes enjoying his exploits, bravery and humour in this video.
You lay a lot on the line when you take to a racetrack and attempt to find your way around it faster than anyone else. Doing so while dangling precariously three feet outside the boundaries of your chosen machinery is another level entirely. And when your chosen machinery is a one-wheeled tube bolted to the side of a motorcycle, things are getting a little too exciting for our blood!
In 1953 Stan Dibben was that man, fending off the fierce German competition, who would begin a serious winning streak the following year on board BMW RS54s, to win the Sidecar World Championship with Eric Oliver. To get there the pair won every race they entered aboard their Norton Manx.
“I count birthdays back from a hundred. I’m 14 this year – I’m 13 next year. I try to behave that way!” – Stan Dibben
This well-produced piece tells Dibben’s story through some wonderful time with the man himself and brilliant shoulder-to-the-track racing footage that you have to see to believe.
