Over the last weekend of September, 2014, the HSRCA and friends gathered at Wakefield Park to celebrate 20 years of historic motorsport on the great drivers’ circuit. And they did it in style – putting on a packed weekend of historic motorsport for an impressive range of historic sports and racing car machinery.

Springtime was on full song throughout the weekend, setting the scene beautifully and enhancing the already relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Race and regularity feature events were held for the pre-1930s, ’30s, ’40s and ’50s historic racing and sports cars which make up Groups J, K and L. The people of J, K and L are some of the most relaxed and friendly you’ll find anywhere, and it’s always wonderful to chat with them and to see the older cars out on the track being treated like kids of half their age!

Keeping them company over the weekend, and putting on an excellent event as always, was the full selection of 5th category historic sports and racing cars. There was a terrific variety of cars to enjoy, and each was prepared and driven well.

All groups had a good showing over the weekend, with multiple events each day closely-contested and well driven, from the fiercely-competitive fields in Group N and Group S to the more chilled pace of Regularity.

One of my favourite aspects of historic motorsport, the pits and paddock were a joy to explore as always. You have almost unrestricted access to explore at these events, and can really get involved in the event and up close and personal with the cars and the people who maintain and run them.

The HSRCA have one more event planned for 2014 – the 2014 HSRCA Tasman Trophy which will be held at Sydney Motorsport Park over the 29th and 30th of November. It’s sure to be a big one and attract a unique collection of historic machinery. Head to their official website here for more information.

And in the meantime, enjoy these photos from the event, by Seth Reinhardt, and hit this link for more.
