For the first time since the start of the Legend Boucles historic rally, the organisation chose to move the event from the present location of Spa-Francorchamps to Bastogne.
Bastogne is a Walloon municipality located in the province of Luxemburg, situated in the Ardennes region in Belgium. The town is well known for the heavy fighting between the German army and the Allies in September 1944.
The Legend Boucles is actually a clever comprise between speed and regularity. Mix it with some famous rally drivers, many spectators and a unique atmosphere and you will get one of Europe´s biggest historic rally events.
For the 57th edition of the event former WRC-drivers Francois Duval, Markku Alen and Alister McRae were invited, along with a large representation of Belgian rally drivers, as well as drivers from France, Germany, Luxemburg, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
Francois Duval managed to claim victory back in 2013 and 2014. During the first stage on Friday evening he had to settle for a seventh place in the rankings. On Saturday morning however, the Belgian driver handled the difficult conditions best and scored on both tarmac and forest stages the best times.
Not a single other driver, even Markku Alen or Alister McCrae could cope with his Ford Escort RS. Alen entered the rally with a Fiat Abarth 131 Rally but was out of the event after the second stage.
Alister McRae drove the same car as Duval and he could follow his Belgian opponent, but didn´t have the speed to attack. In the end McRae was in second place until the penultimate stage. Due to problems with his car he had to withdraw from the event. Third place went to Belgian Bernard Munster in a Porsche 911 Gr. 4
