Video: How to Bump Start a Maserati 250F Mid Race
What to do if you’re stuck on your own mid-race with no go, no starter motor and you’re driving a Maserati 250F Grand Prix car that has no use for a battery? All you need is some quick thinking, a strong arm and some good old fashioned golden age racer gumption.
This is how you bump start a Maserati 250F mid-race.
I’d wager that both of the key elements of this series of events have happened to all of us at some point. You’re searching for the limits of adhesion when you happen to find yourself looking too deeply, spinning, and coming to a rest as the engine conks out. And who can forget the classic bump start – a little bit of forward momentum, ignition on, second gear and drop the clutch.
I’d say it’s less likely, however, that most of us have combined these efforts solo and mid race. In a Maserati 250F, no less.
Simon Diffey was having a great dice holding second in the Hawthorn Trophy race at the 73rd Goodwood Members’ Meeting when he had a spin and came to rest conked out, but at least pointing in the right direction on the inside of the corner.
Barely a blink later and he’s off and racing again. Enjoy his quick thinking in this brilliant clip from Goodwood Road & Racing.
