A veteran of the 1978 24 Hours of Le Mans, this awesome 1978 Ferrari 512 BB is up for sale at Fiskens.
The car, 22715, comes from Jacques Swater’s Garage Francorchamps, which operated as the Belgian Ferrari Concessionaire. Swater is responsible for both Ecurie Francorchamps and Ecurie Nationale Belge, and is well known for legendary Ferrari sportscar racers.
Four privateer Boxer Berlinettas competed in the ’78 24 Hours of Le Mans, including this car, which ran under race number 85. It was modified with Lucas mechanical fuel injection and Marelli electronic ignition, as well as experimental aerodynamic appendages that included a Formula 1-type front spoiler that was mounted on the rear engine cover.
Come race day the car qualified 21st, driven by Jean Blaton, Pilette and Touroul, but would sadly retire with gearbox troubles.
In 1979 it was purchased by Ennio Gianaroli who kept it for three decades and raced it at Club Ferrari meetings. It then changed hands a few times before receiving a full restoration in Germany in 2005.
It has since contested the Le Mans Classic and is beautifully prepared for competition. It’s sold with an accompanying history file including period photographs.
A well sorted car, sporting an interesting period career with the storied Ecurie Francorchamps team, this gorgeous Ferrari looks like a lot of fun. Head to Fiskens’ website for the full details.
