Widescreen Gallery: Kicking Off the 2016 Historic Racing Season with the HSRCA

Our friends in the Historic Sports and Racing Car Association of New South Wales just held their first historic racing meeting of 2016. We tagged along to enjoy a relaxed introduction to 2016’s historic racing, and we’re back with photos!
With no fixed ‘feature events’ set for the weekend, the meeting served as a particularly chilled opportunity to catch up with mates, get settled in behind the wheel and put some heat through a beautiful collection of historic sports and racing cars.
Held over the 27th & 28th of February, the event filled Wakefield Park with the glorious song of motorsport for two packed days of racing and additional Friday practice day.
The varied field of classic racers included everything from a particularly well-supported grid of groups J, K and L vintage race cars through to feisty grids in Group S and Group N, wings-and-slicks racers in groups Q & R and more.
The cars are all beautifully prepared and presented, and driven with a gusto that seemingly forgets that fact! They’re always magnificent to see and we enjoyed some awesome racing over the weekend.
We also enjoyed exploring the pits and paddock, catching up with old friends and making a few new ones. These drivers are custodians to some magnificent machinery and it’s both enjoyable and enlightening to take a walk around, discover some new cars and recount the adventures of regulars.
These events offer a relaxed and welcoming environment that is rare to see in other forms of motorsport, and well worth experiencing.
With the Phillip Island Classic coming up in just over a week, the HRCC’s Historic Warwick in April, the Austin 7 Club’s Historic Winton in May and the HSRCA’s Sydney Retro Racefest returning this June 11th and 12th we have some awesome historic racing coming up over the next few months.
