Sliding Fangio’s C-Type Up a Mountain in the Rain
Hop on board JD Classics’ ex-Juan Manuel Fangio Jaguar C-type for an impressively sideways run up the Bernina pass in Switzerland.
Chris Ward is our pilot, and he clearly possesses a special blend of talent, skill, madness and motorcar, sliding the priceless old Jag beautifully and using every inch of road available. This run would earn him a second overall in the Bernina Gran Turismo.
The 900 kilogram, 280 brake horsepower car was first registered to Juan Manuel Fangio and developed an active period racing career. It doesn’t seem to have slowed down at all since its period career, and is extremely competitive in historic events today.
The Bernina Gran Turismo was created by classic car enthusiasts as a hill climb to celebrate the races held in St. Moritz in the ’20s and ’30s. It’s run on a closed road for sports and racing cars built up until the early ’80s, and runs along a beautiful 5.6-kilometer strip from the Bernina pass from La Rösa to the Bernina Hospiz.
It looks like a bucket list event of grand magnitude!
