This ex-Works 1972 Ford Escort RS1600 has competition history with Timo Mäkinen, Hannu Mikkola and Andrew Cowan and is up for sale at Cheshire Classic Cars.
The car, RWC 456K, achieved its best result when Gilbert Staepelaere and co-pilot André Aerts drove it to victory in the 12-hour Rallye d’Ypres. The rally-winner would also compete as a works entry with Timo Mäkinen, Hannu Mikkola and Andrew Cowan behind the wheel, adding to its impressive competition history.
A full nut and bolt rebuild featuring FIA homologated components has recently been carried out by Motoscope, including an FIA-spec 2.0-litre Alan Sherwood BDA capable of 250 BHP. The shell has been prepared by Normandale Refinishing, so the car has looks to back up its rally-ready competition performance.
RWC 456K is well documented and will be sold with a history file and collection of photographs from its period racing career. A spares package including steel bonnet and boot lids, seven (we did say competition-ready) sets of new Minilite wheels and six fresh Dunlops is included in the sale.
This magnificent rally racer is up for sale at Cheshire Classic Cars at an asking price of £149,995. See their official site here for more details.
