This gorgeous 1968 McLaren M6B has the grunt and racing pedigree to back up its good looks. It’s up for sale at PCH Automotive.
The car, chassis 50-21, was built in 1968. It’s one of the 28 M6Bs that were built as the customer car specification of the M6A that Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme drove so dominantly to 1967 Can-Am Championship glory.
In its day 50-21 raced in Interserie, and it hasn’t slowed down since. A well-known and very quick car, it won the 2005 Monterey historic Can-Am race, took out the Rolex Award for Presentation and Performance in Can-Am at the 2007 Rolex Monterey Historics, took pole and went on to win the 2013 Sonoma Historics Can-Am Race and claimed overall wins at the Wine Country Classic and in CSRG events.
Providing plentiful power to the rear wheels is a 6-litre period-correct Chevrolet V8 small block with Lucas mechanical fuel injection and Vertex magneto. The motor received a full refresh from Computech PRS in California in 2014, and has run just once since then at Spa Francorchamps, outside of race conditions. Shortly after, the car received new FIA-approved harness and 2015 gas tank.
A Hewland LG500 four-speed box helps the power on its way to the wheels and is in racing condition, as is the Tilton triple disc clutch which has just one race on it.
In 2014 the car was inspected by Phil Reilly & Co before going to Europe and its current owner.
50-21 will be sold with a second set of wheels and tyres as well as a full set of race spares, original documents and period materials.
The car is up for sale at PCH Automotive. Head to their official website here for more information.
