This Martini Racing-liveried 1990 Lancia Delta 16V was driven to second in the 1990 Rally of Portugal by Didier Auriol and Bernard Occelli and went on to have a successful career in the Italian Rally Championship. It’s up for sale with the Ascott Collection.
The car, chassis 501631, debuted in the second round of the 1990 World Rally Championship at the hands of Didier Auriol and co-driver Bernard Occelli. Auriol and Occelli were fresh from winning the Monte Carlo Rally in another Lancia, but would be outrun in the Rally of Portugal by fellow Lancia driver Massimo Biasion. Nevertheless, it worked out well for Lancia, with their cars occupying the top five places at the event.
The Rally of Portugal would be 501631’s only World Rally Championship outing, and its only event in 1990. After its time with the works team it was sold to Grifone, who handed it to Piero Longhi to drive in the Italian Rally Championship in 1991.
501631 was upgraded to ‘Deltona’ specification, and Longhi had a great time in it. He claimed second in the Rally del Ciocco e Valle del Serchio, won Rally Valle d’Aosta and Targa Florio with co-driver Pietro Carraro and went on to win the championship.
The car would then be taken back to its original specification and run in several rallies throughout the next few years, picking up third in the Rally della Lanterna and winning the Rally Valli del Bormida in 1993.
1990 Lancia Delta 16V 501631 is in good condition, and up for sale at the Ascott Collection. For further details, see their official website here.
