The Historic Sports and Racing Car Association of New South Wales had the countryside circuit of Wakefield Park singing over the past weekend with their 2019 HSRCA Spring Festival. Scroll along, and enjoy some photos from the event.
Set in the picturesque countryside near Goulburn, New South Wales, Wakefield Park is a lovely little drivers’ circuit. Designed with the specific intent of historic motorsport, it features some nice elevation change and a few tricky turns that allow proficient peddlers to put on a great show.
It’s also tucked into a hillside and surrounded by farmland, which means spectators can see the entire circuit at once and keep track of all the action.
The HSRCA brought a magnificent collection of machinery to the circuit. Headlining the event were the awesome Australian Historic Sports Sedans.
To give you an idea of the variety in this field, the event was won by Garry Ford driving a Ford Escort with a five-litre motor under the hood. He was followed by Aarron Hodges driving a little Ford Anglia powered by a six-cylinder Falcon motor and Ian Baird driving the fastest Austin A30 you’ve ever seen.
Demonstrating similar variety was Regularity, which ran a half-hour team endurance event on Sunday morning that saw plenty of action. The near-capacity field of Group S sports cars were awesome to watch, and it’s hard to beat the closely-matched Formula Fords and Formula Vees, which are constantly three-abreast into corners as they pull out with a good draft.
On the other end of the power spectrum from the Fords and Vees are the wings ‘n slicks sports and sports racing cars of Groups Q & R, which put together a great field for the weekend. They were joined by Groups L, M & O, which field the iconic cars of the ’50s and ’60s. Elfin, celebrating its 60th this year, was well represented here, with three Streamlines, a 600 and 600B and Elfin Mono all taking part.
As always, the event had a great vibe and was fun to explore and chat your way around. We’re looking forward to the club’s return to Sydney for their final event of the year – the Summer Festival, which will be held at Sydney Motorsport Park over the 30th of November and 1st of December.
