Previewing the Unique Peter Auto – Spa Classic 2022
By Marcel Hundscheid / Speed-O-Graphica
The worldwide COVID-19 pandemic caused an unprecedented disruption to life in 2020 and 2021 (and 2022), but this year the Peter Auto Spa Classic is once again on the historic motorsport calendar. The event is one of the annual favorite historic motorsport events among drivers and the public alike.
While the Le Mans Classic, which is scheduled for early July this year, will focus on prototypes, for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in Spa, the focus will be on the Heritage Touring Cup touring cars, entirely in style with the 24 Hours of Spa from the 1970s and 1980s. The public will be treated to two races over the weekend from 20 to 22 May with cars such as the BMW CSL, Ford Capri, BMW 635, Ford Escort, BMW 2002 and several others, during the day and during the evening hours.
The packed three-day programme also includes Group C prototypes from the 1980s and the more recent prototypes and GTs from the 1990s that will start under the Endurance Racing Legends. Le Mans prototypes and GTs from the 1970s and 1980s are presented to the public under the banner of Classic Endurance Racing.
The programme will be completed with the presence of the 2.0 L Cup, open to Porsche 911s with pre-1966 FIA regulations, Fifties Legends that brings together GTs and GTSs that marked the fifties and last but not least Sixties Endurance (pre-63 sports cars and pre-66 GTs) and The Greatest Trophy. This epic series is open to cars from the 50s and 60s.
We’ll be enjoying a very busy weekend covering both the Peter Auto Spa Classic and Nürburgring Classic, and will be back with coverage in the days following.
