A few years ago we came across this unique Porsche 917/10 during a number of renowned historic motorsport events in Europe, and it’s now being offered for sale.

We are talking about Porsche 917/10-001, Porsche’s prototype of the Series 10 CanAm sports car that was built in December 1970 for testing purposes. The car is even more special because it is the only Porsche 917 of all built variants with chassis number 001 in private ownership.

917/10-001 underwent an extensive test program in the period between January 14, 1971 and September 1, 1972. It took eighteen months for this chassis to make its racing debut in Hockenheim in the renowned Interserie championship.

In December of that year Germany’s Willy Kauhsen was invited by the Fittipaldi brothers from Brazil to race this beauty in the first two rounds of the Coppa Brazil. Kauhsen won the first race, achieving the only recorded overall race win for 917/10-001.

After its active racing career, the car was placed in storage from 1974 to 1997, after which an extensive restoration program followed. From 2000 onwards, this beautiful car appeared at selected historic motorsport events.
